Knee Jerk

Too many Christians have a knee-jerk reaction to things that don't come directly from the bible or their church. Everything is suspect, and there's a subtle string of deceit threaded through the whole world. Everyone and everything is the enemy.

But God is knocking on hearts of all sinners and perhaps some of them are questioning the truth of the gospel. Even famous sinners have spiritual questions. Unfortunately, many Christians respond to questions as if they were attacks and turn away the questioning lost with the defensive attitude. That Knee-jerk reaction is simply the WRONG ANSWER.

My Little God

I have a saying. It goes, “A God small enough to understand isn’t big enough to worship.” We must avoid thinking that God’s will for our life is God’s will for every other believer’s life. Don’t dare assume that you are God’s perfect example and if someone disagrees with you or has a different relationship with God that they are out of His will. You are not the plumb line. The word of God is.

The Lord Poopeth

There is a false dichotomy that many christians have constructed that divides the world INTO the secular and the sacred. That dichotomy just doesn't exist. Jesus lived a perfect human life- much of it as a carpenter. Why don't we consider carpentry the highest calling? That's what Jesus did...

Morality Is Filth

Many christians have a arrogance about them becasue they feel morally superior to non-christians. The most disturbing thing is that the things they condemn are things that even Jesus did. Christ himself would be judged a backslider by many christians today. Christianity isn't about 1950's american values. It's about Christ and Him crucified.

Get it straight.

To Minister or Not to Minister...

Christian musicians are under fire when they Cross-over to pop radio or when their lyrics aren't overly evangelistic. Some christians question a band's spiritual integrity when they don't give a message from the stage. But is it the calling of the band to preach the gospel? Maybe it is... but maybe it isn't.

Perhaps the big sin in christian music is not that bands haven't been preaching when they're called, but that some bands are preaching when they haven't been.

Chicken or egg or chicken or...

People often ask, How is your relationship with the Lord? What do you use to gauge this question? Usually your feelings. But too much reliance on your feelings can be very dangerous. Your relationship with God needs to be like a Husband and Wife- way beyond feelings to the fact and commitment of real love.

Name In Vain

Most Christians hate it when people use the phrase often abbreviated GD. Let's face it, it's one of the ten commandments not to use the Lord's name in vain. Most christians, however, are guilty of breaking this commandment. Perhaps we should start looking in to our own lives and see if we live up to the standards we expect from others.

Let's avoid the pettiness of launching an attack against people who sin, and launch an assault of love and compassion on a world literally dying to meet it's savior.

It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool...

Chris sent me this link:

No service on Christmas Sunday? It's just wrong(link broken, but it was a guy ranting about churches not having services on Christmas Sunday...)

And I just had to reply...

The McDonaldization of the Hoy Spirit

I'm concerned about what our commercialized society produces:  materialistic, greedy, self-indulgent people who are always looking for a way to score a fast "something" for themselves. We want more stuff, and now. We would also like it packaged for easy purchase, quick consumption, and most important- make it CHEAP.

What frightens me is that it appears that the church is even trying to package the Holy Spirit. We want a holy spirit combo meal- and we don't have time to stop so we hope the drive-thru window is open. We'd like a tongues combo with healing, large goosebumps and a prophecy.

Oh yeah, I also want it super sized...
