Pocket God

Too many people think they have God all figured out. He folds up and fits neatly in a purse or your back pocket. Can a god that is that easy to tuck away really be infinite?

One of my favorite sayings is: A God small enough to understand isn't big enough to worship. Think about it.

Shallow Thoughts

The church has actually developed a sub-culture and judges christians who don't take part in the cliqueish pettiness that it's defined as christian. Christian Bumperstickers and t-shirts are the rule, and don't hang out with anyone who's not in the crowd, "Flee the very apperance of evil" they cry.

What a load of poo. As for me and my house, we'll serve the Lord- not the church and the marketeering wondermerchants selling garbage stamped with WWJD on the side. Hey church- Live like Jesus: Hug a sinner.

My Little Crutch

We rely on things other than God sometimes. That's OK. Unless he specifically denies it in the scripture, I think that he lets us have our little crutches. It may be your talent for your job. Maybe it's a friend who you look up to as a mentor.

We all have Security Blankets in our lives- if you use one, that's cool- but don't forget that God will be there for you if you leave your blankey at home.

Sub-Culture

What's with the christian sub-culture? Aren't we supposed to be the light in a dark place? Salt is no good if it stays in the shaker.

There's a world out there that needs to know salvation, and the church is keeping the secret well hidden. That's not our job. We're supposed to be rubbing off on the world, not fearing that it will rub off on us.

Truly, Truly, Truly?

Unworthiness.

That's the feeling I often get when I think about God. He is incredibly forgiving and loving and puts up with me and all of my baggage. He must really get fed up with me sometimes...

Or does He? Dig into the scripture and check out how he feels about all of us sinners. It will blow you away.

Sheep in Wolve's Clothing

People often criticize the church for being a bunch of arrogant, self-righteous buffoons who have an inflated self-concept.

The problem is, they're right.

Loving Above Reproach

I always hear Christians defending their judgementalism and seperationist lifestyles by saying, "Hey man, I just wanna be above reproach." The question is... are they?

Perhaps the judgement and pride of the pharisees is the sin that the world condemns the church for these days. If so... the church is not above reproach at all.

Holy Crap

I was just sitting down to read a little and I'm studying Luke 4 where it talks about the temptation of Jesus. I read the first sentence and I said "Holy Crap!" No, that's not profanity... I mean it. There's a lot of stuff that we think is holiness that's really just a load of crap. Poop. Refuse. The stuff Paul said all his good works were. It's simply a load of crap. And we all think it's Holy.

The Sit-comming of the Gospel

On TV, we all hate the words “To be continued…” because we want to know what happens. We don’t want to spend all week wondering what will happen next. We don’t want to have to wait for the answers to all our questions- we want the answers now. Part of the problem is that we’re impatient. But the bigger problem lies much deeper… We don’t want to be forced to think. In fact, we almost resent being made to.

Job Called Me a Wuss

5 months after moving into my second house, I was still dealing with problems with the new house. We'd been ripped off by two contractors (the only two who have claimed to be christians), the house had sucked all of our savings out of us and we were literally down to zero in the bank. We both had been upset at God for letting this happen and didn't understand why so many bad things werehappening all at once.

So I prayed and asked God what was up with the whole situation... and he said that Job called me a wuss. This article was written at that time...
